“The White House said it “applauded” pro-gun control demonstrators at the March for Our Lives on Saturday without directly addressing their calls for stricter gun regulation, although Donald Trump did not weigh in on Twitter, as he is prone to do.

“We applaud the many courageous young Americans exercising their first amendment rights today,” said a White House spokeswoman, Lindsay Walters.”

“Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has been criticized by many survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, told people who attended Saturday’s rallies that he respects their views but does not “agree with all of the solutions they propose.”

“I commend those who today are peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights to march in favor of a gun ban,” Rubio said in a statement about the March for Our Lives protests across the nation.”

“CNN commentator and former Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Rick Santorum on Sunday suggested students protesting for gun control legislation would be better served by taking CPR classes and preparing for active shooter scenarios.

“How about kids instead of looking to someone else to solve their problem, do something about maybe taking CPR classes or trying to deal with situations that when there is a violent shooter that you can actually respond to that,” Santorum said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Santorum’s comments came a day after protesters assembled at March for Our Lives events in Washington and across the country to demand gun control legislation in the wake of the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.”
