Miss Major Griffin-Gracy is a Black transgender activist and community organizer. She has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights and well-being of transgender individuals, particularly those who are incarcerated. Miss Major has been a prominent figure in the LGBTQ+ rights movement since the 1960s, when she was involved in the historic Stonewall Riots. She has contended that Marsha P. Johnson was not present on the night of the riots. Throughout her lifetime, she has consistently advocated for transgender people of color, challenging societal norms and systemic discrimination. Miss Major’s activism has had a profound impact on shaping the conversation around transgender rights and she has never shied away from critiquing LGBTQ+ activists who, according to her, do not engage in sufficient efforts to support the transgender community. Despite facing numerous challenges and adversity, Miss Major continues to be a powerful force for change and a true icon in the LGBTQ+ community.
