The National Negro Business League (NNBL) is a Black business organization founded by Booker T. Washington in 1900. The NNBL initially was open to Black men and women who had experienced success in business and/or other professional areas (e.g., doctors, lawyers). The NNBL focused on enhancing Black Americans’ commercial and financial development in business and on civil rights. The NNBL grew to 600 chapters in 34 states before being renamed the National Business League in 1966. The NBL still is an active organization in the United States with an estimated 120,000 members.
